Avalokiteshvara / Chenrezig

In Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, Avalokiteshvara is the bodhisattva of infinite compassion who hears the cries of the world; in Tibet the Dalai Lama is understood as an incarnation of Chenrezig, and in China the figure transformed into the female Guanyin.
