Source Tradition
In Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, Aquarius is the second house of Saturn and part of the Air-triplicity (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). The amethyst connection derives from ancient Greek belief that the stone prevented drunkenness—the name comes from Greek 'amethystos' ('not intoxicated'). In Exodus 28, amethyst (Hebrew achlamah) is the ninth stone of the High Priest's breastplate. The assignment of Uranus as modern ruler dates to the planet's 1781 discovery by William Herschel, adopted by Western astrologers in the 19th century.
