Source Tradition

In Ptolemy's system, Pisces is the second house of Jupiter and part of the Water-triplicity (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). The aquamarine (Latin 'aqua marina'—'sea water') connection to Pisces is natural given the sign's fish symbolism. Bloodstone (heliotrope) was March's primary traditional birthstone, referenced in a Tiffany & Co. poem from 1870. Neptune was discovered in 1846 and assigned as Pisces's modern ruler by Western astrologers. In the Hindu Navaratna, yellow sapphire (pukhraj) is Jupiter's gem.
