Source Tradition

In Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, Sagittarius is the house of Jupiter and part of the Fire-triplicity (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), governed by the Sun by day and Jupiter by night. Turquoise has been associated with Sagittarius since at least the 1st millennium BCE in Persian tradition, where it was called 'firuzeh' and linked to Jupiter's protective abundance. Lapis lazuli appears in ancient Sumerian and Egyptian texts as a stone of divine favor. Tanzanite was added to December in 2002 after its 1967 discovery in Tanzania.
